“Serve exceptional coffee moments in your business”
A direct mail campaign for Nespresso Professional's Zenius machine launch, built with AI-assisted briefing and Cosmic Wow environment design: from cold prospect to conversion, in a single 150mm × 150mm piece.
Nespresso Professional needed to cut through to prospects in Central London: office managers, receptionists and facilities leads at sub-50-seat businesses who had never engaged with the brand. The vehicle was a single, compact direct mail piece timed to land ahead of Valentine's Day 2024.
The ask was deceptively simple: one format, one offer, one CTA, no relationship to lean on. The brief came in loose, with a key visual and a list of copy points. Owen's job was to sharpen it into something that would actually convert.
Reach cold prospects in Central London offices (within a 5/6-mile radius) with no existing Nespresso relationship. The format was fixed: a 150mm × 150mm DM with a tight copy hierarchy and a single promotional offer.
Small and medium businesses with fewer than 50 seats. Decision-makers responsible for office supplies, hospitality and employee experience: people who care about quality and appearances, but also value simplicity.
Interrupt the daily post pile, communicate an 80% discount on the Zenius machine, and give the reader a fast, frictionless route to redemption via QR code or phone, before the offer closes on 15 April 2024.
Owen ran two AI tools in sequence on this project. BriefCoach took the incoming brief and pressure-tested it against the questions a senior strategist would ask before committing creative resource: audience specificity, offer clarity, redemption path, tone. Cosmic Wow then took the agreed creative direction and generated the environment design for the DM, producing production-ready visual assets at a fraction of the cost of a traditional shoot. The result: a fully realised, print-ready direct mail piece with a clear hierarchy, a compelling offer and a conversion mechanic that works on first read.
Brief Coaching. Better briefs, fewer rounds. Asks the questions your agency would ask in a kickoff, before you send it.
On this project, BriefCoach identified three gaps in the incoming brief: ambiguity around the primary CTA hierarchy, an unresolved copy tone between premium aspiration and hard promotional mechanic, and missing redemption path detail. All three were resolved before a single word of DM copy was written.
The brief arrived with a key visual, a promotional headline and a list of Zenius USPs: ideal for small offices, easy to use, compact. That is a starting point, not a brief. BriefCoach ran its diagnostic across the incoming document: audience, objective, offer, tone, format constraints and response mechanism.
It surfaced the questions that would otherwise have taken two rounds of amends to resolve. How should the copy balance the 80% discount mechanic against the premium positioning Nespresso Professional works hard to maintain? Which CTA takes visual hierarchy priority on the front face: the QR code or the phone number? What do prospects who have never seen the Zenius need to understand in three seconds of reading? With those questions answered upfront, the creative team entered the design phase with a brief that was actually complete.
AI environment design for print and digital. Production-ready visual assets built from creative direction, not a photography brief.
Cosmic Wow generated the atmospheric office environment imagery for the DM: the kind of considered, premium workspace visual that would have required a half-day shoot to produce. Delivered as a print-ready asset with no location fee, no model release and no retouching round.
Environment design is one of the most predictable costs in print campaign production. For a brand like Nespresso Professional, the visual world needs to feel aspirational but accessible: a real office, not a lifestyle shoot, with warmth, light and a sense of a good coffee moment within reach. That brief is labour-intensive to shoot and expensive to do well.
Cosmic Wow took the creative direction from the agreed brief and generated the DM environment visuals from it. The resulting imagery sits within the established Nespresso Professional visual language: warm tones, clean workspace, the machine contextualised in a setting the target audience recognises. The assets were produced at 80 to 92% of the cost saving versus a traditional photography production, with no compromise on resolution or brand alignment. The DM went to print with all assets from a single production session.
BriefCoach distilled the brief into three distinct strategic territories, each addressing a different motivation for the target audience. All three informed the final creative hierarchy: the front face leads with Territory 1, the inside panel draws on Territories 2 and 3 for supporting proof.
The Zenius removes friction from the office coffee experience. Small businesses do not need a barista or a complicated machine. They need something that works reliably, looks the part and requires no management overhead.
Panel validation: Strongest conversion signal for office managers and facilities leads. “Easy to use” ranked as the top decision factor in the target segment.
Nespresso Professional is a B Corp. For businesses that care about their sustainability credentials, choosing Nespresso Professional is a statement: every bean cultivated with farmers, land and community in mind. That is a supplier relationship worth having.
Panel validation: High resonance with senior decision-makers and business owners. Secondary motivation, but a strong closer for prospects already warm on Territory 1.
80% off a premium machine is an objectively compelling number. For a prospect who has never engaged with Nespresso Professional, this is the permission to act now. The offer has a hard close date, a clear redemption path and no ambiguity.
Panel validation: Highest immediate response rate driver. Works as the primary CTA on the front face. Territories 1 and 2 handle the “why”; Territory 3 handles the “when”.
A single 150mm × 150mm direct mail card, front and inside, designed to work across all three territories in a two-panel read. Front face: interrupt, offer, CTA. Inside: proof, values, path to purchase.
